Educator. Maker. Lifelong Learner.
Equal parts professor, maker, and perpetual student, welcome to the about me page.
CS educator at Northern Essex Community College building curriculum, making things, and teaching others to do the same.
Teaching is a moving target, and that's the whole point. I've been teaching long enough to know that the best part of the job is that learning never stops, for my students or for me. At Northern Essex I've built courses from scratch, rebuilt them when industry moved on, and I'll probably rebuild them again. That's the point.
Making things is how I learn best. At home I have two 3D printers, a home server running Kubernetes, and a garden automation project that's currently in progress (the plants are patient). I spend summers going deep on whatever I haven't learned yet, hardware, app dev, web stuff, whatever's interesting. I bring that same "let's build it and see what happens" energy into the classroom, because the best way to understand a technology is usually to break it first.
Good teaching materials shouldn't cost students money. I build and share open educational resources because access to quality content shouldn't depend on whether someone can afford the textbook. My OER Commons profile has freely available resources I've built over the years, use them, remix them, share them. That's the point of open education.
I make videos when I have something worth saying. Which means the channel updates irregularly but hopefully usefully. Tech tutorials, course content, job hunting for tech folks, subscribe if that sounds useful.
The professional version of me lives on LinkedIn. Conference talks, publications, and years of making computer science accessible to community college students. If you want to connect, collaborate, or just see the full career story, find me on LinkedIn.
Everything I share is free to use. If you have enjoyed what I've created and shared, I have a Ko-Fi account you are welcome to donate to if you can without hardship.
